    - Annabelle A. Russo, USA

  • "This program really helped me not just for competition but also made me realize how harsh I was being on myself."

You want to Skate your Best,

but the Nerves take over.

You run clean programs in practice, but…

competition comes and suddenly:

• Your legs feel like jelly
• You can’t get into your knees
• You pop jumps you always land
• One mistake turns into three
• Your brain goes blank
• It feels like you forgot how to skate

I GET IT, I’VE BEEN THERE TOO.

Practice to Podium was built for skaters exactly like this.

A female figure skater performing a move on the ice rink, with her leg extended above her head while balancing on one skate.

What You’ll Learn

Meet your Facilitator

Hi, my name is Colleen and I was once in your skates too.

I grew up as a competitive figure skater, competing in pairs at the national level, tore my ACL, then later earned my Masters in Sport Psychology and Masters in Counselling Psychology, becoming a Registered Psychotherapist.

I used to put some much pressure on myself, while some was helpful, too much and I cracked. I remember one competition I wanted so bad to medal that I actually bombed, I literally messed up everything and it destroyed any confidence I had. This moment amongst others in my life as a skater inspired Performance Positive. To help skaters overcome performance anxiety, build lasting confidence, and perform closer to their potential through evidence-based, down to earth, sport psychology strategies that create success on and off the ice.

An ice skater performing a lift during a figure skating routine on an ice rink, with audience seating visible in the background.
Young woman in graduation gown and cap standing in front of an old stone wall and engraved stone floor.
A female figure skater is performing a move on ice, standing on one leg with her other leg extended behind her and her arms raised. She is dressed in a black outfit with white figure skates.

FAQs

Is this Therapy?

1

No. Practice to Podium is an educational mental performance program, not therapy. It is designed specifically for competitive figure skaters to learn practical mental skills related to confidence, focus, emotional regulation, and performing under pressure.

Is this a good time to start?

2

Absolutely. In fact, the best time to train your mental skills is before you need them in competition.

Just like you wouldn't wait until competition day to learn a new jump, confidence, focus, and emotional regulation are skills that improve with practice. The earlier your skater begins training these skills, the more opportunities they'll have to use them in practice and build trust in them before stepping onto competition ice.

Whether your next competition is in a few weeks or a few months, it's never too early—or too late—to start building a stronger mental game.

Will this actually help me at competitions?

3

That's exactly what Practice to Podium was designed for.

Competition nerves are a normal response to pressure, but without the right tools they can interfere with confidence, focus, decision-making, and performance. Throughout this program, you'll learn evidence-based mental performance strategies rooted in sport psychology and neuroscience to help you manage nerves, quiet unhelpful thoughts, stay present, and perform closer to the way you practice.

While no one can guarantee a podium finish or a personal best every time, we can help you develop the mental skills that many athletes overlook—skills that can make a meaningful difference in how you think, feel, and perform when it matters most.

What age and level is this program designed for?

4

Practice to Podium is designed for competitive figure skaters approximately ages 12+ who are training and preparing for competitions.

If your child is younger but mature and engaged in competitive skating, feel free to reach out before registering.

What happens if we miss a live session?

5

Life happens! If you cannot attend a session, please let me know in advance at info@performancepositive.ca.

I recommend attending all sessions to receive the greatest benefit, as each week builds on the previous one. Recordings will be available after the session.
